The DCA continually works towards our mission to promote responsible leadership, ethical practices, quality, integrity and prosperity in the construction industry through example, education and community involvement.
Within that mission - is Education. The DCA continues to build up our Education Program with seminars for the contractor that covers various topics as Tax Planning, Employee/Labor Laws, Mechanic Lien Law, Contract Law and How to Use the Enterprise Zone and Empowerment Zone to gain the most tax credits.
Another focus is our ESL Program (English as a Second Language). In today's diverse workplace and communities, there is often a language gap between Spanish and English speakers. Effective workplace communication can help you give simple commands, increase safety, improve customer service and provide accurate information to employees or students. Diane Williams, President of the Desert Contractors' Association states "This program then benefits employers, employees and the communities we all work and live in".
The DCA in collaboration with College of the Desert Center for Training & Development created the 40 hour Vocational English for Construction in varying levels. By putting together the classes for construction workers only and are held right after work, it encourages them to go in groups from various employers. This process helps people who would otherwise not have the time, energy or knowledge that they could attend a class after work.
The DCA is helping to raise the bar for construction companies; these education programs are just a couple of the ways.
